
From today (16), school students will be provided with the necessary facilities to travel to school via buses deployed by the Transport Board throughout December, even without a season ticket, states Engineer Sajeeva Kanakarathna, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
The Chairman made this statement yesterday (15) while participating in a media briefing held at the Government Information Department regarding the Transport Board's readiness for the school term commencing today, following the recent disaster situation.
He stated that approximately 99% of the Transport Board's buses have been restored to their maximum capacity, and as of yesterday (15), 4479 buses were deployed for service, transporting about one million passengers to their destinations by 12 noon.
Furthermore, the Chairman mentioned that the Kandy – Gampola via Colombo bus service and the Kandy – Welimada bus service have been restarted, and the Rambukkana – Kegalle bus service has been strengthened. He also stated that bus services have commenced according to integrated timetables with trains, with two buses arriving from Kandy to Rambukkana at 4:15 AM and 4:45 AM, bringing passengers for the trains departing from Rambukkana at 5:57 AM and 6:20 AM.
