Matara Police stated that a 17-year-old youth from Padinji, Matara Kekanadura area, died yesterday (20) due to electrocution. This accident occurred when a wire became detached from a grinder switch.
The deceased was a 17-year-old student named Yasiru Rashen from the Aluminum Craftsmanship course at Matara Technical College. He was at home at the time of the incident to help his mother with some work.
Police confirmed that the cause of the incident was electrocution due to a fault in the grinder's wire. The deceased student was studying for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination and was preparing to enroll in a technical college course after the examination. It is reported that he was going to work with his mother on the last day of the week.
The post-mortem examination of the deceased youth is scheduled to be held at Matara General Hospital. Matara Police are conducting further investigations into the incident on the advice of Matara Senior Superintendent of Police Vasantha Jayamin Kumar.
