Sajith Calls for National Day of Mourning

 Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa emphasized in Parliament that the government should at least declare a National Day of Mourning for the people affected by the disaster.

He pointed out that it is regrettable that at a time when millions of people in the country are suffering from the disaster, today's session should have been allocated for discussing it, but instead, the budget debate had to be continued.

The Opposition Leader expressed his deep regret over the government's failure to even show this much concern for the affected people.

Recalling that this is the fourth tragedy the country has faced in the past four years, Mr. Premadasa stated that in addition to serious crises like the Easter attacks, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the country's bankruptcy, this storm situation has also affected the nation.

Accusing the government of failing to provide a parliamentary debate for the affected people, the Opposition Leader further stated that it is everyone's responsibility to care for those who are suffering at this time.
