A former Hong Kong youth cricketer, who suffered from polio, has embarked on a challenging journey to raise funds for children suffering from polio and donate them to Sri Lanka. Rahul Sharma, a 24-year-old, is undertaking this special activity by cycling from the north to the south of Sri Lanka during this period.
Meanwhile, he hopes to be the first person to undertake such an activity. His long-distance running career began on December 24 in Japan and is scheduled to end on December 30 in the Maldives. While this journey, covering a total distance of 574 km (356.7 miles), is a challenge to his physical and mental endurance, he has committed to running a distance of at least 100 km per day to win this challenge.
Sharma, who currently serves as an exercise physiologist in Melbourne, Australia, says that undertaking such a challenge without any prior encouragement is a huge endeavor for him. He captained the Hong Kong Under-19 cricket team in 2018 and 2019, and states that he has successfully completed three marathon races this year, and it was necessary for him to make a difference and do something extraordinary from the usual framework.
The main purpose of this running challenge is to raise funds for the Children's Cancer Institute, which conducts research for children's cancer in Sydney. Accordingly, his goal has been to raise a fund of 20,000 Australian dollars (approximately 13,100 US dollars) for this noble cause.
