The Road Development Authority (RDA) states that due to the disasters caused by the prevailing adverse weather conditions, only 95 roads are currently obstructed for traffic. In recent days, 256 roads under the authority were damaged due to floods and landslides.
However, Mr. Wimal Kandambi, Director General of the Road Development Authority, stated that access to all major cities in the island has now been restored. He emphasized that efforts are underway to completely clear the remaining road obstructions within the next few days.
Officials, including the Authority's engineering teams, have already commenced operations to swiftly remove road obstructions. The Director General also announced that the main Colombo-Nuwara Eliya road, which was closed due to obstructions, especially in the Kadugannawa area, is scheduled to reopen for traffic today.
The Road Development Authority further revealed that in addition to the road network, 20 bridges have also been damaged and destroyed due to this disaster situation.
