The Wattala Magistrate's Court today (31) ordered the remand of Mr. Johan Fernando, son of former Minister Johnston Fernando, until January 09. The Magistrate issued this order after the suspect, who was arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), was produced before the court.
On the 30th, a team of officers from the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) arrested Mr. Johan Fernando in the Ibbagamuwa, Kumbukwewa area. These investigations are being carried out based on several alleged irregularities that occurred during the period when Mr. Johnston Fernando served as the Minister of Trade and Cooperatives.
Specifically, the main charge filed against him is the fraudulent use of a lorry belonging to Lanka Sathosa and several other vehicles, in breach of criminal trust. In addition, the police state that Mr. Johan Fernando has also been accused of misusing government funds by unlawfully obtaining salaries and allowances by posing as a member of the ministerial staff.
The Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) states that the suspect was arrested based on facts revealed during the preliminary investigations into these incidents, and it is reported that former Minister Johnston Fernando, who is related to the incident, is still missing.
