Considering the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the island, the government has decided to declare tomorrow (28th) a special holiday for all state institutions, excluding essential services. The purpose of this decision is to avoid inconveniences that could be caused to public servants and the general public due to heavy rainfall and disaster situations.

Issuing this announcement, the Ministry of Public Administration stated that although tomorrow is considered a special holiday, it will not apply to institutions providing essential public services such as health, security, electricity, and transport. Therefore, the Ministry further emphasized that public officials engaged in essential services must report to duty as usual.

Furthermore, the government has also paid special attention to ensuring the safety of schoolchildren amidst the prevailing adverse weather. Accordingly, instructions have already been issued to the governing bodies of international schools operating across the island to take steps to close them tomorrow.

Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, stated that this decision was made for the safety of children, considering the current weather risk, and urged all international school authorities to adhere to the given instructions.
