President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that the government expects the full support of the local business community to successfully implement programs aimed at providing relief to the affected people and restoring normalcy to the country's public life. The President expressed these views while participating in a special discussion held last night (29) at the Tri-Forces Headquarters with representatives of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

During the meeting, the President briefed the business community on the country's prevailing emergency disaster situation and the government's programs for rescuing and providing relief to the affected population. The discussion primarily focused on the potential contributions from the business community to efficiently advance these measures.

Extensive attention was also given during this discussion to the urgent steps required to overcome the challenges faced by the industrial sector amidst the current emergency, and to continuously maintain the strength of the industrial sector without allowing the country's economy to collapse.

The business community drew the President's attention to the existing issues in the tourism industry, airports, and transportation sectors. Ideas were also exchanged on immediate measures to be taken after the disaster subsides, particularly restoring electricity and drinking water supply, as well as the urgent need for rapid development of selected infrastructure, including main roads and bridges.
