A special discussion on maintaining and restoring communication facilities for people affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the island was held on November 28, 2025, chaired by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Affairs, Mr. Eranga Weeraratne.

During this meeting, attended by officials from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), representatives from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), tri-forces officers, and representatives from leading telecommunication service providers, all parties agreed to provide special relief to those affected by the disaster.

It was revealed that communication services in several districts, including Kandy, Badulla, and Anuradhapura, have been disrupted due to damage to fiber network systems caused by heavy rainfall and landslides.

As power outages have become a major obstacle to operating communication towers, telecommunication companies requested authorities to expedite the restoration of electricity in affected areas. It was also decided that postpaid customers' phone connections would not be disconnected during the disaster period, even if they exceeded their credit limit.

Furthermore, special data and call relief packages have been introduced for prepaid customers. Dialog and Airtel customers can activate a package valid for 3 days, offering 250 minutes to any network, 250 SMS, and 1GB of data by dialing #006#.

Hutch customers can get 300 minutes to any network and 1000MB of data for 3 days free by dialing #3111#, while Mobitel customers can send an SMS with 'YES' to 7677 to receive 300 minutes to any network, 300 SMS, and 1GB of data.

Furthermore, SLT-Mobitel has provided free call facilities for fixed-line customers and has taken steps to offer unlimited internet access (Unlimited Data) free of charge for home broadband customers, including Fibre, Home 4G LTE, and ADSL, until 7:00 AM on November 29.
