SMS Alert to Colombo Residents: Evacuate Kelani River Low-Lying Areas

 The Department of Irrigation has warned that a high-risk flood situation, unprecedented in recent history, could occur in the low-lying areas of the Kelani River basin within the next 24 hours.



In light of this situation, residents have been advised on several occasions today to act with extreme caution to ensure their safety. 
As an extension of this, the DMC (Disaster Management Centre) has sent an advisory SMS message to the people of Colombo in the evening. It states:

Major Flood Warning - Residents living in low-lying areas on both sides of the Kelani River are strongly advised to evacuate to safe locations.
