Naval teams have successfully rescued twenty passengers who were trapped in a bus caught in strong currents near the Kala Oya bridge on the Anuradhapura-Puttalam road. The bus was swept away by sudden floods in the Rajanganaya area, and the Navy Spokesperson stated that extensive operations are still underway to rescue the remaining passengers affected by the disaster.

Due to heavy rainfall and prevailing severe adverse weather conditions, initial rescue operations launched last night were unsuccessful. Consequently, some passengers from the bus have climbed onto the roof of a nearby house for safety, and the Navy has launched a new operation this morning to rescue them.

Officials confirm that additional personnel from the Navy's Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS), Special Boat Squadron (SBS), and other specialized units have been deployed to strengthen this special rescue operation. Authorities state that all necessary measures are being taken to swiftly and safely evacuate all stranded passengers affected by the disaster.

Video footage confirmed that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has also been closely monitoring this rescue operation via live visuals since early this morning. The President's direct attention has been drawn to the Navy teams' dedication to saving lives amidst challenging weather conditions.

Although rising water levels and the swiftness of the currents have further complicated rescue efforts, authorities are making every effort to reach those at risk. Despite the existing obstacles, relevant departments are continuously working to ensure the safety of all remaining passengers.
