Sri Lanka Rises to 91st in Global Passport Rankings

Sri Lanka has climbed five spots in the latest Henley Passport Index, ranking 91st in the 2025 edition. The index, compiled by Henley & Partners, evaluates passports worldwide based on the number of destinations their holders can visit without needing a visa.

According to the latest rankings, Sri Lankan passport holders can travel visa-free to 42 countries. Sri Lanka shares its 91st position with Iran and Sudan out of a total of 99 rankings. This is an improvement from its 96th place in 2024.

At the top of the list, Singapore holds the title of the world's most powerful passport, granting its citizens visa-free access to 193 destinations. Japan and South Korea share second place, while a group of European countries—including Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain—occupy third place.

On the other end of the spectrum, Afghanistan ranks last, offering its passport holders the least global mobility.

The Henley Passport Index is a globally recognized ranking based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is updated regularly to reflect changes in visa policies worldwide
