Sri Lankan doctor Corona dies in London

A Sri Lankan doctor working at a hospital in London died of a coronavirus infection on the 17th. The deceased has been identified as Upul Nishantha Dissanayake, a resident of Welipenagahamulla, Nattandiya. Upul Nishantha, an alumnus of Joseph Vaas College, Wennappuwa, had gone to England about 20 years ago to practice medicine. He was 52 years old at the time of his death and a father of one. Her daughter Mevna Dissanayake is a final year student of the Medical Faculty of the Eastern University. Dr Upul Nishantha's wife Suji Dissanayake said that the Covid vaccine was to be given to him in the next few days. Dissanayake is considered to be the first Sri Lankan doctor to die while practising medicine abroad. He was a member of the inaugural medical student body of the Colombo North (Ragama) Medical Faculty. A tribute was paid to him at his residence in Dunakadaniya last evening (18) with his family's participation. His last rites (18) were to take place in London.
