What is going to happen to Rajitha after the warrant

Colombo additional magistrate, Mr. Bandara Nelumdeniya has yesterday (24) issued a warrant against former minister Mr. Rajitha Senaratna as a suspect for having discussed about kidnapping in white vans, torture, making persons disappear, unlawful confinement of persons, robbery, providing refuge to suspects and spoliation of evidence. After former minister Rajitha Senaratna was named as a suspect in the white van case, the additional magistrate issued the warrant after relevant matters were reported to court by criminal investigation department.

The above-said order was requested for by Mr. Dilip Perera, state deputy solicitor general appearing in court by representing attorney general. The deputy solicitor general notified court that former minister Mr. Rajitha Senaratna has requested for bail in accordance with 1997 No. 30 bail act 21. Accordingly, according to clause 25 of the same bail act, permission was requested from a magistrate for him to be taken into custody. The deputy solicitor general further informed court that this person has committed offences subject to punishment in penal code 102, 113 (a), 169 (e), 190 and under clause 81 (a) of the act of choosing the president and for him to be named a suspect and to be taken into custody and to be produced in court.

Under the above circumstances the attorney general has released an order naming former minister Mr. Rajitha Senaratna as a suspect after considering the relevant facts by the magistrate in relation to the white van incident and for him to be taken into custody. 

According to a complaint lodged by national organiser of Singhape Organisation, Gangodawilage Kumudu Pradeep Sanjeewa Perera living at No. 1068/A, Kumarage Mawatha, Battaramulla, an inquiry was launched by criminal investigation department. According to information revealed from those inquiries, two suspects have already been arrested and remanded. The CID has even secured an order last 23rd by cancelling overseas travel of this suspect.
