Lakshan who engaged in painting, knocked down by vehicle driven by monk ... dies!
A most unfortunate incident is reported recently from Ratnapura where a nineteen year old youth was struck by a vehicle driven by a monk and had died while another was injured in the process. Urumiwala Kusala thero of Karawita, Jayanthipura junction was responsible for this accident which took place on 13th afternoon. Police say that as the cab had sweared from the road and had been moving as a result of which two young men who were

On this occasion, H.R. Lakshan, a 19 year old boy died on the spot. Lakshan who died was a resident of Kalawana, Weddagala and had been awaiting results having sat for the advanced level examination this time. He in fact was engaged as one of those who was involved in the recent trend of wall paintings. His friend who sustained injuries in this mishap is under treatment at Ratnapura general hospital.
Inquirer into sudden deaths, Mr. T.M. Harinda Lamina Tennakoon who conducted the inquest day before yesterday (14) and orders were given for the suspect monk to be taken into custody on evidence secured and to be produced before court. Whatever it is, it was reported that was a delay in the monk being taken into custody where the police were concerned and in the process people in the area had rocked near Nivithigala police station until justice was done to the deceased child, it was reported. However the monk was later taken into custody.
Urumiwala Kusala thero who is alleged to have driven the vehicle and was taken into custody was to be sent to remand prison till tomorrow (17), Ratnapura additional magistrate, Mr. Wijaya Tennakoon ordered day before yesterday. Nivithigala police are conducting further
investigations. Final rites of victim Lakshan is to be conducted today (16).
