A particular mishap popular singer Chithral Somapala had to encounter at a musical concert held last Saturday at Bandaranaika Memorial Hall (BMICH) with participation of Sampath Bank employees has by now contributed to various talks within social media.

The opinion that circulated most was the incident when he was singing on stage and had mentioned
"Who is Gotabhaya" (Gotabhaya mokekda) in an insulting manner and later a crowd who was at the festival had approached the state and had chased him away after assaulting him and when he was bing dragged away at that moment the crowd had applauded.

Whatever it is, after the incident concerned, talks began to circulate within social media and subsequently Chithral Somapala together with his friends have informed that news circulating around this incident is inaccurate. This conflict arose when the announcer there had pointed out with his finger to Chithral something obscene and when when Chithral was trying to make a response to it after which a friend of Chithral has proceeded to keep him in front and has explained matters. He pointlank mentions that this talk is totally away from politics.

Chithral Somapala, son of well-known singing duo Somapala and Chithra is a singer who has taken to singing in a different type of singing following his parent's footsteps. Prior to this, various incidents were reported in connection with him. Criticism was levelled against him in 2018 for having abused Sinhalese saying that an unwanted animal is poked into the national lag.

Senior officers of Sampath Bank who organised the said festival by now have reported that the story of Chithral Somapala who participated in the concert organised for December 14th night where he is supposed to have behaved in a manner where the president was defamed and that he was chased away as a result is a total fake.

"It was we who invited Chithral for this concert. There was more that a thousand who attended the concert. In the meantime one of our people had an exchange of words with Chithral and on that occasion Chithral also behaved in somewhat of an aggressive manner. At that moment some who were present there were heard hooting. So to avoid an unnecessary clash taking place we asked him to get away from that place and to 'relax'. Those stories that he said something to abuse the president is an absolute lie. No such thing took place as such. In this connection, the video which circulates across social media begins from the point where he is assaulted and reprimanded. But there is whatsoever a video where he makes any insult as such.
