Indian newspapers have yesterday confirmed the identity of the three Indian nationals who died from the accident which occured when travelling in a van along Southern Expressway recently and it is now revealed that it is a well-known author in India, professor Ganga Prasad Wimal and his daughter and son who have died from this accident. Those who have sustained injuries are the husband and child of that deceased daughter.
At the moment of the accident the 67 year old Sri Lankan driver and six Indian nationals were
travelling in the vehicle from Matara to Colombo the van had struck a container lorry travelling at a speed of 25 kilometres per hour and it is understood that the accident has occured because the driver has fallen asleep in the process. As a result of the accident the driver, professor and both his son and daughter died.

Professor Ganga Prasad Wimal who was 80 years old at the time of death has done considerable service as a lecturer in the Hindi language in universities in that country. He has been engaged in service university of Punjab, university of Jawaharlal Nehru and is an owner of several research publications. He has written 11 books on poetry, 16 books on fiction and the number of publications he has translated to Hindi totals 30. He is also someone who has been bestowed several literary awards as well. Indian minister Ramesh Poknayal has extended his sorrow on behalf of the state on the bereavement of professor Prasad Wimal.
