Distinguished cricket commentator Aubrey Kuruppu dies suddenly while on his way for a cup of tea!

Mr. Aubrey Kuruppu who became a popular figure among cricket fans and among any as a cricket commentator of English passed away last Friday. He was 74 years old at the time of his death. 

Mr. Kuruppu in fact was not a person who happened to be in an ailing condition as such. He has made it a habit of visiting Royal Mall in the mornings for a cup of tea and he was on his way there
last Friday when he had suddenly collapsed. It is understood that he was dispatched to Kandy general hospital but has passed away at the hospital. 

He was born in Dehiwala on March 11th, 1945. He was an Old Boy of St. Thomas's College and a graduate of Peradeniya university as well. His father is Mr. Syril Kuruppu and mother is, Linda Wijeysingha. He could be called an accomplished cricketer, a coach, cricket writer, an administrator, an umpire and a match referee. He represented his college and won colours. Aubrey was a cut out figure at Peradeniya university cricket team as well. In addition he was a cricket administrator. Aubrey who was the secretary of Kandy district cricket association and was a member of the Sri Lanka touring organising committee for a period of five years. He at one time trained cricket teams in Vidyartha and Sri Rahula Vidyalaya and one of his products was Asela Gunaratna.
