20 year old girl gives birth to baby in hostel of Ratmalana University of Vocational Technology

Mount Lavinia police say that a girl in the hostel of Ratmalana Vocational Technical University has has given birth to a baby yesterday (19) inside a bathroom early morning. The baby has died and the student concerned has been directed to Kalubowila Teaching Hospital. This student has been studying following a food production technology medicine course in her first year. Being a resident of Mihintale is 20 years old. 

This student who has joined the university in June this year has taken lodging in the hostel together with three other girls, it is understood. She has been to her village has returned from her Mihintale
home day before yesterday (18) evening and has spent her time with other students without showing anything abnormal and has shared food brought from their homes; however she has rejected taking her dinner, police say. 

Around eleven in the night she has complained of a stomach ache and other students had giver her pain-killers and even other forms of treatment, police say. As her stomach ache has aggravated towards night-time when the other students had tried to inform the authorities, this student had gone into the bathroom and after closing the door has spent over an hour inside. 

Subsequently she has borrowed a cloth and after the lapse of a short period had come out with something wrapped in it, a police officer said. Having observed two legs of a baby and head, the other students who went into a panic had once more informed authorities about it. Later she has asked the other students to keep this a secret saying that she would be leaving for home early morning the following day. After a short time a lady officer of the governing body has arrived on the scene and having got into swift action after getting down a resident lecturer has managed to admit the girl to hospital, police say. The baby wrapped up in cloth had already passed away. 

It was revealed at investigations that the girl had become pregnant as a result of an alliance she had developed with a person in Mihintale; but it is something unnatural that others were unaware that she had conceived.
