UNP provincial council member who said, "We can go without helmets!" ... arrested with her sister

An incident where a provincial council member of Wennappuwa was taken into police custody together with her sister for having obstructed police officers in their duties was reported day before yesterday. Dulakshi Fernando a United National Party member of Wennappuwa provincial council and her sister have thus been arrested in this connection. 

Day before yesterday the 19th afternoon the said councillor's sister has been riding a motor cycle
without wearing a helmet and in the process police officers on duty have stopped the bike and engaged in checking. At that moment what she has said was, "We can go without helmets ... are these the types of mistakes you'll check?" Police say that the said provincial council member has approached them has interfered in the matter by obstructing duties of the police officers and that the sister too has joined in the argument. 

Some person has captured the said incident on video and had handed it over to police. Thus after Marawila police had reported the incident to Marawila court, it was ordered that the said suspects be taken into custody and to produce them before court. The suspects are expected to be produced before Marawila magistrate court today (21).
