"I was not summoned for the President security council" -- Inspector general of police, Pujith

President criticised inspector general of police, Mr. Pujith Jayasundera as being responsible for the Easter Sunday terrorist attack and was asked to vacate his post. However since he did not accede, he was sent on compulsory leave and at present an acting IGP has taken over that position.

Mr. Pujith Jayasundera was present today to give evidence at the parliamentary special select committee to look into the Easter Sunday terrorist attack. Giving evidence on that occasion, what he
said was that the then secretary of defence had told him that the President had informed that it was not necessary for him (IGP) to attend the security council meeting that particular day. The IGP further stated that he did attend the security council meeting of October 23rd in connection with a matter dealing with transfers but that he was informed verbally that it was not necessary for him to participate from the month of October. The IGP finally mentioned that Mr. Kapila Waidyaratna who held the position of secretary of the ministry of defence conveyed this order verbally to him. He then said that as he was informed that it was not necessary for him to participate in the security council meeting, he responded likewise.
