Malambe Neville Fernando hospital still private -- but expenditure by government

Though Malambe Neville Fernando hospital no longer is a private hospital not belonging to government and that all expenses of the hospital is borne by the state. This was revealed when secretary of the health ministry, Mrs. Wasantha Perera when giving evidence in the presence of the Presidential commission appointed to inquire into corruption of state-owned institutions.

A commission was elected by President to inquire into corruption and frauds that was considered to
have taken place in government institutions during the period January 15, 2015 till December 31, 2018 and funds expended by the state without Neville Fernando hospital not being appropriated by the state has come into inquiry by now. What Mrs. Wasantha Perera, secretary of the ministry of health, nutrition and indigenous medicine who gave evidence in the presence of the commission was that it has been confirmed by a cabinet document to the effect that Neville Fernando hospital belongs to SAITM institute alone until a period of 10 years elapses. As such, if the hospital is to be acquired by the state, action should be carried out after that period.

What was indicated by a press release to the media by the President commission was that though ministers happen to present incorrect proposals with regard to financial matters, in such a case whether secretaries of ministries consider it their duty to oppose such incorrect decisions when the chairman of the commission queried, to which the secretary had responded in a positive manner. Further inquiries of evidence was postponed till 6th of June.
