When Asad Sali arrives at meeting ... local government chairmen leave their seats -- a crowd "booes"!

When Mr. Asad Sali, governor of Western Province came to attend the Kalutara district co-ordination meeting held last morning (30) at Kalutara district secretariat auditorium, chairmen of Kalutara local government institutions who were present for the meeting had left the place. The said meeting was conducted under leadership of chairman of Kalutara district co-ordinating committee,member of parliament, Mr. Lakshman Wijemanna.

At the commencement of the meeting MP Mr. Lakshman Wijemanna and Kalutara district secretary,
Mr. U.D.C. addressed the gathering sayig that governor of Western province, Mr. Asad Sali was appointed as the co-chairman of the committee by the President as from May 28th. Mr. Asad Sali took his seat when the meeting was thus in process when chairmen of local government of Kalutara left from the hall at that very moment. Simultaneously media correspondents who came out and after confronting the chairmen queried why they were leaving the meeting to which chairman of Wellawita provincial council Mr. Udeni Athukorala replied saying that there is no sufficient protection at the assembly hall for him and for that matter he is leaving. Mr. Athukorala who added that officers are taking the reigns into their hands because the provincial council has been dissolved and that the provincial council elections should be conducted soon.

In the meantime, Hettipola Seevali and Maspanne Gunasekera theros and some others were engaged in a protest against Mr. asad Sali near the gate of the district secretariat. When Mr. Asad Sali left after the meeting from the rear gate, the crowd including Buddhist monks who went there expressed their protest while some members of the crowd expressed their protest by booeing.
