Muslim student goes on last journey according to Buddhist precepts ... with "mathaka vasthra" rites performed

M.L. Dilshan Kahn (17), a Muslim student of Weerapokuna Vijitha Maha Vidyalaya met with an untimely and sudden death from a motor bicycle accident in Weerapokuna, Puwakgahakadawala last 15th night. The death of this student who was expecting his last GCE O/L results has brought a shock to his school. As a result, the school has come forward to attend to the final rites of the student. 

It was according to Buddhist customs that the school has carried out final rites of the student.
Principal and staff of Vijitha Maha Vidyalaya have organised relevant procedures to pay last respects to Dilshan's body by giving prominence according to Buddhist procedures with the maha sangha in attendance. A large crowd was seen present, irrespective of any religious discrimination to pay their last respects to the student's body, it was reported. It was also reported that the maha sangha, Maulavis of Kiniyama Mosque and Maulavis of other mosques were seated beside the dead body while the maha sangha attended to "dehen gilanpasa, mathaka vasthra", it was reported.
