Nadeeka and Thilini among employees chucked out from Swarnavahini

As a consequence of the situation relating to employees that is prevailing in the private channel of Swarnavahini, by now transmission of programmes has got into a confused state. Even the afternoon news broadcast had to be broadcast as a recorded programme though an indication was given that it was a 'live' programme because production units were on strike.

The above mentioned employee issue had cropped up based on the incident of 'Live at 7' announcers
Nadeeka Karunanayaka and Thilini Perera and 13 other media employees being sacked, it is reported. A trade union meeting of about 250 employees had been held yesterday (18) on reasons of administration staff being changed, lack of qualitative programmes and no increase in salaries. It is reported that duties of 15
persons inclusive of news presenters who attended the meeting were suspended.

Under such circumstances duties of Muditha Wijeysundera, Nadeeka Karunanayaka, Prasanna Samarasekera, Thilini Perera, Nuwan Jayawickrema, Joseph Basil Roy, Wasantha Singhapura, Rohana Wimalasiri, Chandana Seneviratna, Aruna Wasundera, Lalith Weeratunga, Suraj Gamage, Aruna Dias, Sampath Thilakawickrema and Nayana Ujith were suspended. They were persons who served the company of Swarnavahini for a period of over 10 years, news sources say.

It is the opinion of chief executive officer that employees establishing a trade union cannot be established according to laws governing the establishment. Internal sources have reported that about 270 of 300 media personnel serving Swarnawahini have joined this trade union.

Though the employees have requested for a solution from the administration within a period of 18 hours ... the issue has still not been resolved. Those who have been suspended from their duties have lodged a complaint with the police, they have had a discussion with labour Commissioner's office as well. There is a rumour that they will be conducting a media discussion too.
