Krishantha Pushpakumara tenders resignation saying "Now judiciary can work in peace"

Member of provincial council, Krishantha Pushpakumara who was subjected to a case of alleged sexual abuse of a girl happened to hold a media briefing this morning and has said that he will be quitting his position and because of that the judiciary will be able to proceed with his case independently.

Not only where he is concerned, the span of the provincial council will be over in another about 3 weeks and relinquishing his post as member is limited to about 22 days and it will therefore not
something that will affect him in the least. What is indirectly understood by he saying that his quitting will be a help for judiciary duties is that being in power is court not giving a proper judgement.

Having been produced before court in charges of having abused a girl created a sensation round the country and afterwards being released on bail in 2 hours too added to the sensation in connection with the judgement too. Krishantha Pushpakumara, member of Southern provincial council from United People's Freedom Alliance has decided to vacate his position as told by him in today's media briefing, further adding that his hands are pure. He has thus said that he will be handing over his resignation letter today to governor of Southern province.

He was taken into custody in connection with causing sexual harassment  to a girl last 28th and a rumour went round that he tried to settle the matter with the girl's party.  Serious allegations were aimed at the politician for having committed sexual molestation to a 16 year old girl at a devala in Batagoda area, Akmeemana on the morning of February 23rd on the understanding that he was to dispel ill effects of Kalu Kumara; five days after surrendering in police, he was successful in getting released on bail.

Mr. Pushpakumara who said that everybody who represents him is thrown into shame because of this issue and therefore he has taken this decision. He further said that till such time as he is freed from guilt from these accusations he will stick to his standpoint. He then said that the judiciary would get an opportunity to carry on their activities independently and that anyone can criticise this decision in an incorrect manner. He was on the other hand asked to relinquish his position from the political party, sources connected to Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna said.
