Investigation about alleged tongue-lash by South Governor against Southland Principal
A police investigation is underway in respect of a complaint received to the effect that Southern Province new Governor Mr. Keerthi Tennakoon has reprimanded principal of Southland College, Mrs. Sandhya Pathiranawasam.
She has complained to police saying that she was reprimanded and threatened for not so far having been enrolled four girls who were to be admitted to Southland College. Last 28th as there was no response for the telephone calls given by the governor to this principal, the governor has taken
measures to summon officers of seashore police and convey the intended message. Accordingly, when the police had gone to her house, it is understood that at that time the principal had gone out for religious observances and therefore the seashore police had gone to the relevant vahara and after contacting the governor over the phone and had given it to the principal. The said incident of reprimanding in fact has occured at that moment.
What Galle Police say is that already statements have been recorded of the security officer of the school and the principal's husband.
The Association of Teachers say that as Southlands College does not come under the category of a school in that zone, the governor has no right to issue instructions to the principal concerned. Police say that matters have to be reported to court regarding to the incident. Even prior to this there was a problem Western new Governor, Asad Sali and principal of Nugegoda Anula Vidyalaya.
