As observed from CCTV footage, as the defender had been proceeding unanticipatedly, the officer in charge had paused for a while and wondered how to evade the situation when in the twinkling of an eye the defender which swerved to a side had struck him. The person who drove the defender was in an intoxicated state and has waited only for just a moment near victim. It was in a most inhuman manner that those who were inside the accompanying vehicles of that vehicle had beat a retreat abandoning the injured officer in charge.
Later the defender which subjected the OIC to the accident was located in a house in Pelawatta, Battaramulla and 8 suspects were taken into custody regarding the incident. Among those suspects was Mr. Mahindananda Aluuthgamage's son, a member of parliament of Colombo municipal council and son of a superintendent of police. At present, all of them have been released on bail except for one suspect.
