Beggar who has built 3 houses and has deposited 5 lakhs in passbook ... now at Fort Railway Station!
A 65 year old blind man who has built up three houses and has saved Rs. five lakhs and deposited the money in bank from the money he earned by begging for a period of 25 years was arrested last 4th by railway security division.
This person who was engaged in begging on the Gampaha - Colombo Fort line was taken into custody by railway security officers and on that occasion he had been in possession of a sum of Rs.

This person who is a resident of Gampaha has been engaged in begging in buses and railway stations for 25 years and his wife has passed away. According to what he had told railway security officers was that he even resides in a house built from monies he has earned by begging. Both his daughters are married and with children while their husbands are employed. He has also told the railway security security officers that each of the two daughters have a motor vehicle too.
This person has said that he had earned about Rs. 150,000 for a month and that not being able to see has made it a blessing for him to live in this manner. This person who was cleanly attired has further revealed that his daughters are aware that he is engaged in begging in trains and that it is in a three-wheeler that he comes to operate his duty as a beggar; it was revealed when he was questioned. A daughter who came to know that her father had been taken into custody by railway security officers had come to railway station headquarters in a motor vehicle.
