Panathipatha - Maithri ... right - Kudu Mudalali Society - Maithri promotion on Colombo walls - NGO promotion

A poster campaign has been launched as 'Maithri ... right' appreciating President Maithripala Sirisena in connection with preparations to implement the death penalty once again while a poster campaign is to be observed voicing 'Panathipatha veramani sikkhapadan samadhiyami' which can be hypothesised as having been launched by non-governmental organisations against the decision of the death penalty. (This could have been done by those involved in Maithri promotion activities themselves). On the other hand, perhaps as a response to this, another label-campaign has been started and the label 'patronage - Kudu Mudalali Society' has been pasted over the poster 'Panathipatha veramani
sikkhapadan samadhiyami'. 

The decision taken by the government headed by Maithri to implement the death sentence against narcotics racketeers has come in for much praise by most people. Whatever it is, according to information received now about this matter ... still no date has been fixed in that respect as such. Since the death penalty has been used for the purpose of political propaganda as seen from these posters; what rotates in form of a doubt in the minds of most people whether this so-called death penalty will really be a programme which will be implemented in the country or else a few will be hanged when elections would draw nigh and soon afterwards it will end as a propaganda item. If this happens to be only a propaganda programme as such; the fear anticipated to be driven into the minds of the offenders of reaping positive results through the death penalty -- that will be then in vain. Sri Lanka being added to the list of 56 countries enforcing the death penalty in the world is still only a phenomenon which has so far given rise to a debate.
