"Son is studying in China ... I am a director ... Ranjan disgraced me calling Viagra" -- Shashi Weeravansha files action
Leader of National Freedom Front, Wimal Weeravansha's wife Shashi Weeravansha has filed action in the presence of Nugegoda District Judge Mrs. Nilmini Ferdinandez against state minister Ranjan Ramanayaka for having held a media discussion against her and publicised false information and made disgraceful remarks. In this connection she has demanded Rs. two hundred and fifty million as a fine. This is what is stated in the
case filed under instructions of attorney-at-law Mr. Manohara de Silva:
Petitioner is Mrs. Ranasingha Randunu Mudiyanselage Shirja Udayanthi (Shashi Weeravansha) living in Hokandara.
Respondent is Mr. Ranjan Ramanayaka of Madiwela, Kotte Housing Scheme for MPs.
The petitioner has given a description in order for court to understand the dignity of the goodwill of her name to claim damages and thereby as mentioned therein is registered as a director of Sri Lanka Board of Investors and is known as Randunu. It was also stated that she is a three-dimensional artist from the year 2009 and that she is a contributor as a writer of songs for children in teledramas. It is further mentioned that the petitioner is a mother of three children and that her eldest son has studied in a leading school in Colombo and that he is pursuing higher studies in a university in China.
Ranjan Ramanayaka has conducted a media discussion on January 11th in the year 2017 or on a nearby date in relation to the death of a neighbouring young boy from a heart ailment while sleeping having spent the night in the house with some friends on 26th in the year 2016 and during the media discussion Ranjan Ramanayaka has made false remarks in connection with the petitioner.
In this instance words uttered by Ranjan was quoted as: "This wealthy woman had a young spirit. Had a desire to associate young men. Spent enough of money. Bought and gave vehicles. Used high potent drugs. Killed the young man. We see these killings similar to killings of Lasantha Wickramatunga, Pradeep Ekneligoda and Waseem Thajudeen".
By filing this law suit Shashi Weeravansha has claimed Rs. two hundred and fifty million and interest suitable for it and other payments as justified by court saying that his comments were false and was defamatory.
