"Your recommendations are of no use to me to choose Prime Minister!" ... President refuses to accept Speaker who showed evidence of majority!
Many opinions were expressed that parliament which President wanted to dissolve was successful in assembling on a temporary recommendation of Supreme Court today (14). As such, the parliament gathered and a number of parliamentary parties attempted to bring a solution to the issue regarding Premiership without a majority which contributed to the debate which was instrumental in President's initial decision.
As a Prime Minister who won the confidence of the majority of the parliament should be appointed
by President, this decision was expressed through writing to President by the Speaker. Whatever it is, President Maithripala Sirisena who reacted to Speaker's letter has informed that the decision concerned is not relevant to him. Under these circumstances he has in turn informed that he wishes to accept Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister. The President has further criticised the Speaker seriously and has even severely condemned his letter as being a political case of partiality.
