Mahinda Rajapaksa quits Sri Lanka Freedom Party!
Prime Minister Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa who was elected to the position of President on two occasions by representing Sri Lanka Freedom Party ... quit the party today. He has now enlisted himself today (11) with Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna which was pioneered by his brother Basil.
He obtained his membership around 11 this morning at Wijerama official residence and about 50 parliament members who represented Sri Lanka Freedom Party headed by the Prime Minister
registered with the party while the 16 members of parliament team of Sri Lanka Freedom Party who were with Maithri had signed for the membership, it is reported. Wimal Weerawansha of Jathika Nidahas Peramuna too belongs to this list of members.
As such, Mahinda Rajapaksa will be coming forward under the Pohottuwa logo or under an organisation that represents both Pohottuwa and Hand. If it does not happen so, the SLFP would be contesting separately, in which instance Podu Jana Peramuna would will contest separately after which when electing a government they would combine with each other. Signs are that Sri Lanka Freedom Party would belong only to Maithripala Sirisena and a few others.
When considering election results of SLFP during the past, the party has secured only 4 per cent when taken singularly and as such, with this phenomenon the party has displayed signs that it has become a party that would be erased from the stream of Politics.
There would be an opportunity to bring forward a separate contestant from Pohottuwa logo for general elections of 2020 and under such circumstances Mathripala Sirisena would have to contest all alone from the SLFP. It has been noted in some political reports that this last process of events which took place during the past few days is connected to a strategy launched by Basil.
