Member of Parliament Mrs. Hirunika Premachandra has gone to Athurugiriya police to lodge a complaint that her home in Arangala area, Horana has been burgled last Sunday (23) and that some articles of value have been removed. At the time the said robbery has taken place, Hirunika and her husband and child were deep asleep. The burglar involved in this robbery has stolen jewellery, a
watch and some other items valuing over Rs. 3 lakhs. Hirunika had told police that it is a question as to how this robbery has taken place last Sunday even when police protection has been afforded to the residence.

What Mrs. Hirunika says is that CCTV scenes indicate that the burglar who had come along a parapet wall at the front of the house has finally gained access through a window in the rear pat of the house on the top floor. The police who carried out investigations subsequently were able to secure evidence that the burglar has opened the door of an almirah in one of the rooms of the upper floor with the aid of a chisel. It is understood that boxes containing  jewellery and wrist watch were stolen.

The police later were able to find the chisel used to open the said door and the empty boxes as well after taking possession of its contents of jewellery in an adjoining bare land nearby. When the robbery has taken place Mrs. Hirunika Premachandra, her husband and child had been in the house and had later detected this robbery only when they had woken up in the morning. Athurugiriya police are conducting further investigations into the incident of burglary.
