An incident of a father sexually abusing the girl whom his son was to marry is reported from Buttala.

This pretty girl had been escorted to to this house where the said son and father were living even before marriage and she had thus stayed back in the house with the idea of getting married. However,

at a time when the son employed in labour-work as a way of living was out of the house, his father had forcibly tried to abuse the son's would-be-wife.

What really has happened was that, on a day that the son would not be at home the whole day, as pre-planned by him, he had made others at home to engage in other tasks and then come into the room where the girl was and after closing the door had attempted to abuse the girl. In that instance she had yelled out when the villagers had arrived on the scene and had tried to rescue her from outside.

On information received by Buttala police, the police had arrived there and raided the house concerned and had found that the suspect had sexually molested the girl and she was weeping incessantly. It was at that moment the police managed to take the 48 year old father into custody. The girl who was subjected to abuse was hospitalised.

The girl had said that she had by then not legally married to the suspect's son and that she was from Hatton and that she has come to stay there in this house at the consent of her parents. The suspect is to be produced before Wellawaya magistrate court and Buttala police are conducting further inquiries in this regard.
