2019 World Cup trophy brought to Colombo yesterday --
The ICC Cricket World Cup trophy to be bestowed on the winners and the One-day World Cup to be held next year is being taken around in countries appearing for the said tournament and in the process, under the fourth phase of this tour it was brought to Sri Lanka.
Though Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha and former Cricket captain, minister Arjuna Ranatunga were present on this occasion, none of the players of Sri Lanka's one-day team managed to show their
faces there and thus their absence was conspicuous in this instance.
Reports were published to the effect that because of the defeat experienced on the last tour, members of the Cricket team shied away being present and were hiding in their houses. Not attending this occasion was highlighted even across international media. When questioned by the media about the Asia Cup debacle, what former Cricket captain and minister Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga said was, "I don't want to speak about it. Ask the Sports Minister about it ... I didn't play in that tournament. There are too many cricketers now".
