Vasudeva and Welgama publicly oppose Gota coming back!
With rumours going round that former Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya contesting as a candidate for the forthcoming Presidential Election, certain groups connected to United Opposition has begun to drift. In short, they are against Gota being favoured for the opportunity of candidate for this Presidential Election. Two of those who publicly said so was Kumara Welgama and Vasudeva Nanayakkara.
Addressing a United Opposition rally yesterday (14), Welgama said: "Vijayakala goes round the
North and is saying that they want Prabhakaran ... is Prabhakaran a democratic leader as such? Prabhakaran is a dictator. Then some people in the South say, that they want a Hitler. Then, they are asking for a dictator from that end and a Hitler from the South. Then what is going to happen to our country? Then can you'll live? Can you'll sleep in the night? Those days both those governments criticised the administration ... it's not possible to go to sleep in the nights ... not even the police knows what happened to this man. Therefore, we are not in favour of a dictatorship rule!"
In the meantime, member of parliament, Mr. Vasudeva Nanayakkara who expressed his ideas at a media meeting yesterday (14) had this to say: "The person called Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is not a politician. Neither does he have a social democratic opinion as such. He simply is an army officer. When considering the powers at the back of Mr. Gotabhaya ... it is exceedingly dangerous!"
That mans that Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has been pushed forward with the motive of creating an army power ... to launch a military power. Army officer Sarath Weerasekera has already said that once their Deshapremi group comes into power, the chairman of Human Rights Commission will be sent to gallows! To say such a thing ... what power should be in their hearts! ... the military character inside them. What they are getting ready is to bring about a tenacious military government. Retired Army officers, English-speaking gentlemen and ladies of upper and middle class, professional groups, industrialists and great elite class can't go on protest in this country ... can't go on strike ... can't speak about Rights in this country. They are looking for someone who can really control those things. Professionals, local great wealthy people and big businessmen that I am talking about comprise the leading battalion. It's not characteristics of Mr. Mahinda that's there. What we want is Mr. Mahinda's leadership. Now of course he can't be pushed in here ... no. Because of that we want a leadership like his leadership".
