Same work of those who carried out
the 20 million robbery
A sum of over 20 million cash being taken to be deposited at automatic teller machine in lower Naragala area along Bulthsinghala - Horana Road around 5.30 last afternoon (28) was plundered by a group of robbers.
The said money was taken to be deposited on an agreement between the bank and a private company. When the driver of that firm including the security officer had parked the van containing the cash
near a shop and had been taking their meals before depositing the money when some marauders who had come in a jeep had aimed chillie powder on them and beat a retreat after robbing the money. The robbers had not left any trace as evidence whatsoever.
Whatever it is, According to inquiries conducted in this connection revealed that the security officer who came in the van had left his weapon in a manner so that the robbers were able to get at the money at the moment of robbery. Because of that suspicion, the security guard of the van belonging to the private company was arrested by the police. A sum of over 20 million rupees being taken to be deposited at automatic machines thus was lost because of this robbery. What police said was that further information would be revealed from those taken into custody on suspicion for aiding and abetting the robbery.
