Underground member's wedding amidst police security!
The wedding celebrations of an underground member of Mattakkuliya area was held yesterday 25th under complete police protection of Wattala police. The function was held at a festival hall in Wattala.
The wedding car which brought the couple was escorted upto Kadirana bridge in Wattala police area under protection of police jeeps and several police motor bicycles travelling from Colombo. From
there onwards the couple had been escorted to the Wattala festival hall in Wattala area with security of a police jeep and a motor bicycle of Wattala police, police sources say. Over 300 guests had attended this wedding function and all guests were admitted to the festival hall after strong inspection procedures, a high-ranking police officer mentioned. From the inception of the wedding ceremony onwards until the end over 20 police officers were deployed in the environs of the festival hall and thus protection was strengthened. It is also understood that all these security procedures were carried out by police officer-in-charge of Wattala police y stationing himself at that location.
The couple had set off on their honeymoon at the end of the wedding ceremony also under police security, it is learned. Police say that police protection had been afforded for this marriage ceremony according to written orders of inspector-general of police and senior deputy-general of police of Western province. It is understood that a rival underground chief of Mutwal area had threatened the bridegroom that he would be murdered on the wedding day. As such he had complained about this incident to inspector-general of police and had requested for police protection at his wedding after which this police security was afforded to him, police sources further state.
