Police curfew has been imposed on Kandy administrative division until further notice once again. Police media spokesman, Superintendent of Police, Ruwan Gunasekera has said that additional security army forces have been deployed in addition for the protection of the police task force in areas covering Teldeniya, Digana and Pallekelle. Sirisena has announced a state of emergency to take effect from last afternoon for a period of one week. It is by enforcing the second part of the public security ordinance. In this context, necessary legal powers have been bestowed on the police and the three forces in order to bring relief from the prevailing situation by enforcing regulations of an emergency situation.
3 police teams sent to upcountry
Superintendent of Police and police media spokesman Mr. Ruwan Gunasekera says that 3 special police teams were sent to Kandy District under instructions of Inspector General of Police, Mr. Pujith Jayasundera.
Internet speeds low
On being questioned from Telecommunications Regulatory Commission about internet speeds being low, what they said was that the speed of access to the internet in Kandy District has been limited. The reason for it they say is that through such a process it is possible to detect persons who spread false rumours across social media and web sites by taking advantage of unsettled conditions that have cropped up in Kandy District. The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission further states that this appeal was made by the ministry of defence. The commission further says that whatever it is this situation would be brought to normalcy within today. In the meantime Dialog company too had mentioned through a Twitter message that access to the internet within Kandy district has been limited.
Whatever it is, by now the police curfew has been once again enforced in Kandy administrative district. Police media spokesman, Mr. Ruwan Gunasekera has stated that this would be active until further notice.
