Schoolgirl dismissed from school suspected pregnant because of vomitting ... finally claims justice!
The schoolgirl of Madatugama area in Kekirawa who was dismissed from school recently with baseless accusations that she had become pregnant for actually having come to school without any breakfast and starving has once again resumed her schooling day before yesterday(6) after a
month after the said incident by having the fortune of entering Anuradhapura Madhya Maha Vidyalaya.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has taken action to provide her with the opportunity of remaining at the hostel in that school also being paid an allowance of 3000. The girl incidentally was from a farming family engulfed in sheer poverty and members of the family were making ends meet with just one meal a day to sustain themselves, it was reported sometime back. Minister Sajith Premadasa on the other hand has pledged support of an aid of Rs. 5 lakhs for this student's innocent father and mother to build a house to live with her. In addition, the required books, a stock of school equipment and some dry rations and a stock of other items were donated to the parents who were eking out a living by engaging in labour-work. This donation was made at the Anuradhapura house of Mrs. Chandrani Bandara, Minister of Women and Child Affairs.
After the incident of the girl being expelled from Madatugama Revatha Maha Vidyalaya by its lady Principal suspecting the girl to be pregnant, without inquiring any further created an uproar and inquiry is underway against the lady principal over this incident and her duties have been suspended. This is what Minister Chandrani Bandara requested: "I appeal that in instances like this, not to take hasty decisions. These are all our children. I appeal to principals all over to look into the necessary relevant matters and then take necessary action". The girl's mother has expressed her gratitude in tears to all help given to her.
