A notorious clique of schoolboys of a well-known school in Matara, Akuressa - Thibbotuwawa engage in unruly behaviour demanding ransom and engage in various types of illegal activities of social corruption and this has been discussed at the

Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting.

'The behaviour of school children of underground-type leaders is indeed sad. A child cannot be safeguarded without paying a ransom to the clique. If money is not paid ... the children are assaulted. Therefore, innocent children pay the money. When watching how the school children go home after school ... it's like a Hindi film. The leader of this gang leads in front while ten or twelve others carry his bag, phone and water bottle.  Recently the supposed leader of this gang was nabbed by the police on the road with ganga in his possession. In the same way a tattooing machine has been brought to school and on a tip off by some child, it was caught by a teacher.

What children in the school say is that tattooing is done on the chest of boys and on thighs of girls. This situation is difficult to be brought to a halt because of certain tuition masters. Some tuition masters give 'shelter' to children like this who attend their classes. Ganja is galore in Akuressa town ... like buying a Panadol tablet any time from a shop. We appeal that this be stopped immediately'.
