Private Secretary of Finance Minister nabbed with stock of foreign liquor bottles!
A Private Secretary of Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera and 4 others were nabbed by a team of Police Special Task Force while in the process of transporting a stock of foreign bottles and narcotics worth lakhs of rupees in a luxury vehicle day-before-yesterday (5) night in Mount
Lavinia.
On information received by officers of the Operations Division of that Force the suspects concerned they have been detected transporting these items to be sold for those attending a beach party at a Mt. Lavinia beach hotel. On inspection of the vehicle, cocaine mg. 100, 4500 mg. dancing pills, 0740 mg. hashish, 18 bottles of foreign liquor, 48 contraband cigarettes, 2 sharp knives and a uniform of a police superintendent were found. These individuals were from Kandana, Malambe, Talahena and Matara while the 42 year old Private Secretary of the Minister was a resident of Kandana.
They were produced before Mt. Lavinia Court yesterday and one of them was remanded while the Private Secretary of the Minister and others were released on bail. The raid was conducted by Sub Inspector Wimalaratna and his team under instructions of Commanding Officer of the Police Special Task Force, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. M.R. Latiff.
