Police officer who faced gunfire ... dies -- Judge speaks about incident
The police officer who was engaged in duties providing security to the judge while on the way to Jaffna has finally breathed his last.
At the time shooting had taken place in Nallur area last evening around 5.10 targeting Jaffna High Court Judge Mr. M. Ilanchelian this police officer and another officer had been travelling in a motor
cycle when they were involved in a shoot-out with their assailants and this police officer has faced gunshots on his abdomen and thus received severe injuries in the process. it was reported that he had succumbed last night at about 2.30 while the other officer is still under treatment. The judge who was the target of this shooting incident however escaped injury. In fact he is one of the members of a bench of 3 judges who are presently engaged in handling the case of a sensational manner these days relating to student Vidya of Jaffna who was collectively raped and murdered.
Judge Mr. Ilanchelian who has expressed his opinion has said that he was targeted while he was on his way to Nallur Temple and that attack was aimed at him and not the police officers and that their aim misfired and added that this incident was a serious threat to the judiciary.
