I want to go beyond Bandu, Tennyson, Wijaya Nandasiri -- Mike

Tele actor Denuwan Senadhi who gives life to the character of Mike in in the teledrama 'Deveni inima' which these days have become a popular drama had this to say at an interview he participated in with a Sunday newspaper. 

* 'Deveni inima' has become quite popular because
of you ... isn't it?

   Yes definitely.

* Denuwan ... were you actually a character like Mike, in your school-life?

   Yes. Though not exactly as in the teledrama, in a similar way I spent my time most cordially with friends.

* During what period did you get associated with acting as such?

   About 10 years before.

* If you didn't come into acting, where would you be now Denuwan?

  From my small days I like the subject of television. Initially I worked as a Production Assistant with a private channel. In that firm I come across Copywriter Mahesh Rathsara Madduma Aarachchi. Later on he decides that I am more suitable for acting and not for production activities. He first introduces me to the film-track "King Hunther". After that I get involved in the teledrama "Nil nethu" for which he himself wrote the script. In the year 2011 I get involved in the teledrama "Sulanga". That's how I launch myself into acting. 

* How do you get involved in the teledrama 'Deveni inima?' 

   I get an invitation from Producer Dilshan Amarasingha of Derana to take over as announcer at a Reality Programme of Derana. It was Laksiri Wickramage and our Programme Director Sharmila Dharmarasa and Dilshan who propose me for that. It was during that time that I come across Saranga Mendis. He said that he's preparing to do a super job and that it is something that will make a Hit! He said that it's Saman Edirimuni who did "Sidu" who is writing this also. He told me to handle the role of 'Mike' in that and that it's a character associated with school. It was in that manner that I get that character called 'Mike'. 

* Don't you like to act a role which goes beyond humour?

   I have no such target as such.

* Don't you think that you're confined to hunour-mixed roles?

   Yes ... we are confined to that without we ourselves being aware of it. It's like this. There's a character which the audience expects of us. If we go to do something beyond that role and it misfires, the audience loses all hopes about us. So because of that what I believe is that I should develop a maturity and strengthen myself within the framework that I am confined to. 

* Bandu Samarasingha, Tennyson Cooray and Wijaya Nandasiri could be identified as specialists in the field of comedians. Is your attempt too to achieve that level?

  No. I try to become a character who goes beyond that. Those artistes reached their maximum in acting in Sri Lanka. My hope is to become someone who goes beyond that. I am trying to be someone of an international level.

* How are your film activities these days?

   I got invitations for some fresh assignments regarding films. A comedy film called 'Yama raja siri' is still to come. Its main role is being played by Bandu Samarasingha and Tennyson Cooray. It'll be screened shortly.

* Denuwan ... how are you in true life?

   Someone who lives a simple normal life. I am married. I have my wife, mother, father and a sister. Sister also is married. I live a simple normal life with them.

* What sort of co-operation do you get from your wife?

   I get a 100% support from wife. I got this support even from the time she was my lover. It's because of that I decided to make her my future partner. 

* What are the new creations we would be able to see you in ... in the future?

   No, I wouldn't accept up a lot of work. Must be frank to what is being done ... isn't it? So these days I am frankly devoted to work in 'Deveni inima'.
