Indian newspapers underestimate Pakistan victory!
The distinguished victory claimed by Pakistan in the Finals for the Champion's Trophy played between India and Pakistan today (19) was underestimated and published so in most newspapers published in India.
As there is a barrier for a long time based on revenge founded on a national issue between India and Pakistan unceasingly, Pakistan grabbing this victory in Cricket in a background where conflicts are
flaring up constantly is a situation which Indians cannot bear up. Possibly for this reason, reporting this victory on leading pages of 5 national newspapers appeared in a somewhat beyond-the-normal style.
What has been reported right at the top of the leader page in the celebrated 'Times of India' newspaper is only about a victory by the Indian Hockey team against the Pakistan Hockey team with descriptions coupled with photographs. There was not even a word about the defeat in the cricket match in the main page and what is highlighted in the inner pages is that Pakistan acquired an unanticipated win.
In the same way what was described in the leader page in both 'DNA - Daily News Analysis' and 'The New Indian Express' newspapers was only about victory in Hockey. No indication at all was given to readers that there was a cricket match. Even 'Deccan Chronicle' newspaper had described the Hockey-victory at the top and the Cricket-defeat in brief at the bottom of the page. Only a photograph of the Pakistan player who scored a century was displayed on the first page of yesterday's 'The Hindu' newspaper; but without stating how India was defeated -- a comment was made saying that further details are available in the sports page. That first page, from here
