Videographer who tried to Drone-video Ruwanveliseya and agitated the crowd ... in custody
The Police Media Spokesman announced last week that if news mediamen were to use Drone cameras and record proceedings, it is essential that they obtain prior approval in that connection and that still such conditions have not assumed a legal status; but in the future such laws would be
enforced.
A videographer who has manipulated a Drone camera without permission has been taken into custody in Anuradhapura today. This videographer who is said to have arrived there for the purpose of covering the Kapruk Poojawa event of the Ruwanveliseya has set off the Drone camera into the skies without prior approval of the police, it was understood.
It was said that the Drone camera wandering about in the skies has disturbed devotees who had been present and had misdirected their devotional focus elsewhere and in one instance the camera had struck the stupa and fallen down on which occasion some members of the crowd had gone towards the fallen down camera and surrounded it with curiosity.
The Drone camera which belonged to a videographer of a private rupavahini service which came under the attention of the police later was taken into their custody. The Anuradhapura Police are conducting further inquiries on this matter. Prior to this incident a Drone camera which was in operation during a scene of agitation in Hambantota too was taken into custody by the police.
