8 year old child dies with wall of cement-blocks falling on head!
An 8 year old girl breathed her last most pathetically when a wall in the house under construction with cement blocks collapsed on her head in Gabadawatta area, Pitipana, Homagama.
The house had been erected with cement-blocks and a wall had been built to erect another room attached to this house. This wall which was about 4 feet and 8 feet wide in dimensions were
minus any props with the construction being not finished and it had been erected in the compound of the house. This had been built by a civil employee of the Army who incidentally was the deceased child's father.
Day-before-yesterday the 8 year schoolgirl had been playing with her elder brother during which period she had faced this tragic ending to her life. This accident had taken place at a moment when the girl's father had been watching both of them play, standing near the door of the house. The deceased had abruptly dashed towards the door of the house at which moment he was able to see the wall collapsing on her head; however he was not at a distance close enough to rescue her from the calamity. When the wall of cement-blocks collapsed on her head, she had started to bleed profusely and action was taken to dispatch her promptly to the hospital with serious injury to her head. But during the journey to hospital she had breathed her last most unfortunately.
After being admitted to Homagama Base Hospital the doctors had said that her death was caused by serious injuries affecting her head. It was R.M. Saubaghya studying in Year 3 of the Army College in Panagoda, Homagama who succumbed in this manner.
