Parliamentarian Wimal Weeravansha and a team of leaders of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna had yesterday approached Malwatu and Asgiri Maha Nahimi in Kandy and had made an attempt to point out and explain continuously that the government is taking steps to draft a New Constitution and that it would turn out to be extremely hazardous to the nation. his explanation. What was apparent at this confrontation was that the Maha Nayaka Thera had expressed his ideas saying that the New Constitution has still not been drafted and that the President and the Prime Minister have so far not expressed their opinion in a manner so as to provoke any suspicion. He further exclaimed that such changes would be effected after consulting the public on that topic.
However what MP Wimal started explaining to the Most Venerable Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thera was that the situation is to the contrary and that this was something expected to be launched after Geneva Talks and that the government is making a strong effort not to accept Buddhism as the main religion of the country. The Maha Nayaka who replied with cross comments when such points that are beyond proof were being brought forward ultimately said that the situation in relation to war crimes is now on a favourable footing and that he entertains no belief about a Geneva conspiracy of that sort.
Subsequently, MP Wimal who almost went mute as if not in favour, finally took leave of the Maha Nayaka with the intention of making a visit to the Asgiri Chapter to blurt out these same matters there. It is the opinion of political critics that Wimal had voiced his ideas with the motive of developing an ideology with the objective of creating an opinion against the New Constitution in the days ahead and thereby present various points to religious parties. Whatever it is, the discussion with Wimal and the Venerable Malwatta Chapter was exposed to the media and the video which taped the proceedings, from below
