Protest at J'pura that a thief had jumped into women's hostel!

There was a commotion at Sri Jayawardenepura campus last Saturday because of a thief who had come to the women's hostel. This hostel consisting of four floors which is situated outside the campus grounds is allocated for female undergraduates of

the Arts stream. There is only one lady security officer for this hostel, it was reported. On the night of the said incident the lady security officer had been in deep sleep and on that occasion the thief had entered the building surreptiously and having opened a flap of a window that was dilapidated had further crawled into several rooms where the students had been sleeping.

The thief concerned had robbed 8 mobile phones belonging to the students and when he was in the process of stealing the 9th phone had approached the bed of a student and had been tampering around the place at midnight when the student sleeping there had suddenly awoken. The girl who set her eyes on this person hovering around the place where a soul of a male is not to be found inside this hostel had been struck with fear and had let out a shriek in a thundering voice, "here's a thief ... here's a thief!" At that moment the other girls had got up from their sleep and had made an attempt to catch the thief; but he had immediately jumped from the window and had beat a retreat.

The students had later taken action to put up the lady security officer in deep slumber who of course did not know an inkling of this incident and was informed of all this. The Jayawardenepura male and female students both had got together and staged a protest yesterday based on this incident and had demanded that certain locations of the hostel be renovated without delay saying that the security afforded is not sufficient.
